We are developing a modified Tomographic PIV technique to effectively measure time-resolved three-dimensional velocity fields in turbulent flows. This uses four high-speed video cameras, capable of 1200 frames/sec at full resolution of 2Kx2K pixels. The system uses a modified commercially available Tomo PIV system from LaVision GmbH.
This technique will allow us to follow coherent turbulent structures in time and elucidate how they affect the dynamics within a turbulent jet. This system was implemented by Tiernan Casey (former Masters Student, currently at UC Berkeley) and Prof. Jun Sakakibara, visiting from Tsukuba University in Japan.
